Where are you on the see-saw of thoughts, emotions and actions?

This see-saw concept is something I commonly mention about during my sessions with people. I belief it is a useful concept to get across especially when trying to manifest/create/receive something new in life.

This picture shows an equal amount of “bad” and “good” emotions on each side of the see-saw. Most people don’t pay enough attention to realise whether they invest more or less of their time and energy on one side or the other. The same can be said of thoughts and actions in life.

The misunderstood “law of attraction”

I could write a lot about the law of attraction and how many people misunderstand it and/or don’t apply it well. Let’s keep it brief.

Essentially this law states that you get out what you put in. If you are unhappy in life and you keep creating, holding onto the same emotional habits, you’ll simply create more and more unhappiness. If you invest yourself in exploring, learning and eventually creating happiness, gradually you’ll experience more happiness in life.

The law of attraction is very real and it is happening in every moment of every day of your life. There is not just circumstantial evidence for this either and you could delve into quantum physics or quantum mechanics if you really wanted to understand how precise this law actually is.

Many who truly understand this law have used it very effectively to win the lottery, acquire their dream house, learn to develop supposedly impossible skills such as astral travel, powerful energy healing and so on.

What stumps a lot of people is that they start off with a set of vibrations when they start to exist in this reality that seem to be so difficult for them to change. Both the vibrations their individuated consciousness or soul that they take from lifetime to lifetime and also the vibrations of the physical body that are based on how that physical body’s ancestors chose to believe/act/experience. Soul memory and cellular memory if you like. From there you change some of those initial vibrations and create new ones as you live life.

These starting vibrations have a lot of momentum to them and some of them, because they are so hard to change or even impossible in a human life, may be deemed as “destiny” or if you like what the soul chose for this lifetime. They include things like being a human, being male or female, the belief in gravity, the need to eat and dying if you don’t eat for example – things that you are extremely unlikely to be able to change in this lifetime.

Then some other vibrations may be hard to change but you can change them within one lifetime with enough focus such as gaining the seemingly “impossible” abilities I mentioned above.

Then there are other vibrations that may be somewhat less hard to change but still need some focus and effort to do so, such as becoming rich when starting off poor in life. And then there are vibrations with less and less momentum that are easier and easier to change and require less focus and effort – you get the idea I hope.

Momentum

The key thing to understand here is momentum. The greater the momentum or if you like the greater the investment or holding onto a particular belief/habit/lifestyle etc, the harder it is to change and so the more time, effort and focus is needed to do so.

It is hard to slow down a big heavy truck because it has a lot of momentum but every little pebble on the road creates resistance which over time slows down that truck. Eventually you’ll more easily change the direction of that truck and even make if go back the other way. Those little pebbles are all your little efforts to be something different. Some pebbles can be larger of course than others but the idea is that every little effort starts to create change.

Holding onto and creating more thoughts/emotions/actions that are in line with what the truck is already doing is like maintaining your foot on the accelerator instead.

When you start to go more in the direction of life you wish, you start to create momentum in that direction instead of the old. This means that maintaining the desired experience gets easier and easier requiring less and less effort until it becomes a new habit.

This picture can be likened to someone who invests some time and energy in their day in the direction they wish but most of the day their thoughts, emotions and actions are taking them in the wrong direction or maintaining what they don’t wish. The net effect keeps the see-saw more weighted on what is not desired.

Awareness is key

This point is very simple yet very important:

You cannot change something if you are unaware of what you are actually doing/thinking/emoting. I.e. what you are continually investing or holding onto.

When you awaken more and more you simply become more aware in one way or another. Some people become more aware of society and how governments etc behave which is one form of awakening. Some people become more aware of energies that exist beyond what is normal or taught in society and become awakened in a different way. There are many types of awakening.

In order to apply the law of attraction to your life you don’t necessarily have to become more aware of your thoughts, emotion, actions, things happening in your environment/outside life and astral on-goings. The more the better of course but for many that can actually be overwhelming and distract them from their original intention. All “levels” are reflections of each other so often just focusing on your actions or thoughts can be enough, though if you want to have better emotional experiences it would be silly to not focus on becoming more aware of your emotions too.

The common psychological terms of conscious, subconscious and unconscious are useful here. Conscious refers to what you are aware of, subconscious is what you are somewhat aware of but don’t pay enough attention to to fully know or understand. The unconscious is that which affects your life and have no clue about, but can start to become aware of when you ask questions about your life and examine it or be curious about it, at which point it starts to become subconscious.

A lot of peoples mental, emotional and physical efforts are sub- and un-conscious. On autopilot rather than being conscious choices you could say.

I say this because I’ve come across a great many people trying to manifest/attract a better life in one way or another yet they complain they are not getting what they desire.

They often will meditate, use affirmations or some other spiritual technique for several hours a day saying that they are applying the law of attraction exactly the way the book/video/spiritual guide is telling them. Yet for the majority of the day they are not paying any attention to what thoughts, emotions and actions they are actually investing in which are often the opposite of what they desire.

Where are you on the see-saw?

When we are making efforts on our spiritual path we get stuck every now and again because we simply are not honest with ourselves. Again it takes some awareness to notice that to be able to change it. Questions, curiosity, learning, help from others and so on, are examples of what you might like to use to help you see more of yourself here.

Now we know that we need to be more honest about ourselves, ask yourself, where are you on the see-saw of your particular desires? Pay attention to your thoughts, emotions and actions for an entire day and ask yourself truthfully what side of the see-saw is heaviest based on what you’ve observed.

Are you speaking more ill of yourself, or if you like “cursing” yourself more than you think? Are your efforts really going to create a new you? What direction do you see your invested energy each day will take you in?

These sorts of awareness exercises and questions can help you change the focus of your life and flip the see-saw to be weighted more towards those desires you truly wish for yourself.

Start making those small steps towards that desire in order start flipping the see-saw. I won’t go deep into the concept of baby-steps again as I’ve mentioned it so many times in recent articles but start making those steps no matter how small and no matter how uncomfortable they initially seem, and make a habit doing that every day so that you are tipping the see-saw in your favor everyday.

This represents someone who actually is investing more of their time and effort into what they desire each day. Doing this despite what is going on around you and within you is key. You will have up and down days but so long as you are spending more than 51% towards your desires than what you don’t desire you will start to create change. Doing it regularly and consistently over a long period is the key to bigger and more permanent changes.

Consistency and regularity is important

Remember we need momentum.

It is just like going to the gym – going a few times isn’t suddenly going to give you any noticeable results but going regularly every week consistently for over a year definitely will!

I am a big proponent of exercising. Gyms and exercise areas are fantastic for spiritual growth as we get used to choosing our goals despite the thoughts, emotions and physical discomfort that would otherwise stop us from continuing.

To start creating a new direction is often uncomfortable and often a lot of people give up on the law of attraction quite quickly just like people who stop going to the gym after a few sessions because they don’t notice results or give into the thoughts, emotions or physical discomfort.

Often too when people do make an effort for many months or even years depending on the distance between their starting vibration and the vibration of their goal, they don’t realise how close they are to actually achieving their goal. I have seen many people give up and revert back to their old habits when they were actually so close!

I will perhaps write in the next article the concept of a phase-shift to help people better see this point.

Act rather than just meditate!

This is something important to write about when talking about the law of attraction. Just like the language of the mental density is thought and the language of the emotional density is emotions. The language of the physical world is action.

While it is entirely possible that you get a lottery win for example just by meditating on it and not buying a ticket, by for example a ticket accidentally landing on your doorstep or a friend winning, it is far to act in accordance with you meditation by acting to increase you possibilities too. So acting physically by buying a ticket will be much better.

Moreover if abundance is your goal, don’t believe that a lottery win is the only way because the universe will say “well ok then, I won’t give you abundance in all these other millions of ways.”

So following through with physical decisions is very important if you want to create change in physical reality.
